The Stenberg Brothers were Russian designers and became major figures in the avant-garde of Soviet art during the turbulent revolutionary era after 1917. Under Soviet auspices the film industry was encouraged as a leading communications medium. The head of poster production, an artist named Yokov Ruklevsky, recruited a brilliant group of avant-garde constructivist designers. Of these, the most prolific and talented were the brothers, Vladimir and Georgi Stenberg..while techniques of film and photomontage were the point of departure for their posters, the.brothers, masters of color and lithographic process, preferred to draw their images. The facilities available for printing photographic images simply did not give them the sharpness and color they desired. However, the photographic quality of their renderings was achieved with a primitive method of projecting film and photographic images to the desired size and then drawing over them (Modern Poster, pp. 29-30). This Soviet documentary highlights the technological and social advances made during the eleven years of Bolshevik rule. The aim was to display united support for the Revolution throughout Russia..The poster.reflects in the mans glasses the technological advances made by the Soviets (Russian Films, p. 124). Wufka is the name of the Ukrainian studio where the film was done. This version of the poster has Ukrainian text, as opposed to the more commonly seen Russian-language version. Many fewer copies were printed for the studio than for the national distribution, making this a much rarer version.
