A dashing motorist and his sidekick load up on Texaco, The oil that lubricated best. The address of an Antwerp distributor appears below the headline. Ochs was at least as famous and passionate of fencing as he was an artist. He was the ace of the Thirifays fencing club in his native Leige, Belgium, and in 1914 won the individual world championship in Barcelona. One could see in his pencil strokes the same qualities as in his epee strokes: intuition, incisiveness, precision, assurance. An aviation accident during World War 1 put an end to his fencing but not his artistic career - at least one fine poster attests to that. It is for a 1920 fencing competition he would likely have won.
