To call the Caen course a 'prairie' circuit is something of an exaggeration, but obviously the city fathers desired to present an image of open roads and spacious vistas. Hervieu depicts the multifacited nature of the meet by drawing the two Ferrari racing cars against the silhouette of a motorcycle.
