Although Gesmars brief career is most closely associated with that of Mistinguett (see Nos. 47-52), he produced posters for at least a dozen other stars as well. This is one of the rarest of those, as well as a rare Chevalier poster. In one of the very first images Gesmar created for the Boulevardier, Chevaliers lips and rouge match the color of the flower. At the time of its creation, Chevalier was partnering Mistinguett at the Folies-Berere, and it may very well have been he who introduced Gesmar to the saucy Miss. Amazingly enough, Gesmar was only 17 when he executed this poster, and Chevalier looks even younger. In fact, he was a 29-year old veteran of the music-hall stages of Brussels and Paris, where his voice, suave manner and distinctive, lippy silhouette were already well known. He was also a veteran of the army and had been released from a POW camp earlier in 1917. Art Prints are printed on heavy matte finish German art paper using the finest Canon archival inks. Quality Frame with a single white matboard and Acrylic glazing.
