One of two posters for this circus that Hohlwein created that year, and one of many with the horses and riders he loved to draw. The apache act on horseback does not refer to native American feats; it is an equestrian version of a type of dance act popular in the first half of the century in which a sneering, Parisian-style gangster would treat his ladyfriend roughly, often dragging her around by her long hair. The Schumann circus dynasty began with Gotthold Schumann (1825-1908) and evolved under his two sons, both fine animal trainers: Albert (1858-1939) took over the circus operation in Berlin, and his brother Max (1864-1933) expanded a branch to Denmark. Rare! Art Prints are printed on heavy matte finish German art paper using the finest Canon archival inks. Quality Frame with a single white matboard and Acrylic glazing.
