A lushly romantic and (literally) lyric image of an open air festival in Como, the jewel of Lake Como in the Italian alps. Notwithstanding the classical figures musing about with lyres, the festival offers something for all tastes; along with concerts and plays, there are hores races, sailing regattas, swimming, gymnastics , wrestiling and shooting competitions., car shows, flower shows, animal shows (note dogs in lower left), dances, fireworks, "" fantastic illumination"" of the hill of S. Fermo--and the first national exhibition of illustrated postcards! the main figure of the lyre-player is bathed in warm flesh tones the rest is backgrounded in evening blues and mauves. Bottom text area is grey.
